QUEEN OF THE MISSISSIPPI
In August 2012, American Cruise Lines will launch the new-built paddlewheel cruise ship Queen of the Mississippi. The ship is currently under construction at the Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Maryland.
The Queen of the Mississippi will have 140 passengers - slightly smaller than the legendary Delta Queen that had a capacity of 176 passengers. American Cruise Lines has announced to operate the Queen of the Mississipi in the style of the old time steamboats, including "riverlorian" lecturers, calliope music and a real steam whistle, thought the ship itself will be diesel-powered and at the edge of modern ship building standards.
